Consumer Electronics - Cannon's New Oita DSC Plant Completed
November 02, 2004
Canon has recently completed construction of its second DSC (Digital Still Camera) plant in Oita Prefecture, southwestern Japan. Slated for operation in January 2005, the new facilities consist of a parts-production factory and a distribution center. While the factory will be involved in production of DSC/DVC (Digital Video Camera) components, the distribution center will further strengthen logistic processes.

A total of 12.9 billion Yen (US$121.3 million; US$1=106.4 Yen) has been invested in this new site, which has a floor space of 380,000 square meters. Through the new facilities, Cannon is hoping to produce more components in-house and then reduce production cost so as to offer more price-competitive models.

The Japanese company will also continue building key component plants and logistic warehouses within the site; construction is scheduled to close by April 2005.
